New Forest Maps Offline 2.1.1

This application, developed by the creators of GB Maps (which was showcased in Ordnance Survey's OS OpenData innovative application showcase), offers a comprehensive offline mapping resource for navigating the New Forest region.

Utilizing high-quality map data provided by Ordnance Survey, the app serves as a reliable reference and navigation tool across various modes of travel—including footpaths, roads, railways, canals, lakes, and rivers. Its features include intuitive route and waypoint management, allowing users to create, modify, delete, import, and export routes with ease.

The offline search functionality is notably robust, enabling users to locate places, roads, post codes, and hills within the region with considerable accuracy. Additionally, the app offers seamless integration with worldwide online Apple maps—Standard, Satellite, and Hybrid—featuring familiar map elements such as 3D buildings on Apple maps where available.

Map Depth and Coverage

• Offers seven distinct levels of offline mapping detail derived from 2014/5 Ordnance Survey data, ranging from national overview to street-level detail, all accessible without an internet connection.
• The maps automatically load more detailed layers as the user zooms in. The recommended scales for viewing are approximately:

Application Capabilities

• Comprehensive route and waypoint management system.
• Offline search function that accurately locates places using latitude and longitude within a 0.1-minute margin of error within the 1x1 km national grid square.
• Access to detailed hill information—including height, OS Grid Reference, latitude and longitude, region classification, drop height, and links to related websites such as Streetmap, Geograph, and Hill Bagging.
• Display of GPS position either as OS Grid Reference or WGS84 latitude/longitude.
• "Share My Location" feature that enables users to send images of their current position along with location references via Facebook, Twitter, iMessage/SMS, or email.
• Online access to worldwide Apple Standard Maps as well as Satellite and Hybrid layers; Apple 3D Buildings are visible on Standard maps where available and Points of Interest are displayed.
• User location tracking functionalities support devices equipped with GPS—either with or without heading information—across all map types.
• User interface features include a scale bar in metric or imperial units, real-time display of speed and current map scale, as well as pan, zoom, rotation, and pitch adjustments for both Apple and Ordnance Survey maps.
